Connemara National Park

Situated in the West of Ireland in County Galway, Connemara National Park covers some 2,957 hectares of scenic mountains, expanses of bogs, heaths, grasslands and woodlands. Some of the Park's mountains, namely Benbaun, Bencullagh, Benbrack and Muckanaght, are part of the famous Twelve Bens or Beanna Beola range. Connemara National Park was established and opened to the public in 1980. Entry to the park is free and there is a newly constructed playground for children. There is a very nice visitor centre with refreshments available. There are some majestic walks to suit all levels. There is a path which leads all the way to the top of the ‘Diamond’

Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Gardens

Kylemore Abbey is the oldest of the Irish Benedictine Abbeys. The Community of nuns, who have resided here since 1920, have a long history stretching back almost three hundred and forty years. The Visitor Centre welcomes visitors from across the globe on a daily basis. In the A.V. Room, attached to the Visitor Centre, visitors get a sense of the history of Kylemore Abbey & Garden while viewing the twelve-minute video which is available in three languages.

Beaches: Glasilaun, Lettergesh & Renvyle Beach

Glasilaun Beach

Glasilaun beach is a natural beauty. Always golden sand even in high tide it’s set on a gentle inlet which makes the water very calm. Some fantastic snorkelling of rocks and kelp. Approx. 8km from Mitchells Cottage.

Lettergesh Beach

Lettergesh beach is another beauty. Can often have great waves, not big enough for surfing but body boarding heaven with a gentle offshore breeze. Approx. 6km from Mitchells Cottage.

Renvyle Beach

Renvyle beach is also know locally as Whitestrand. Beautiful long strand in low tide it fills completely in high tide. Some lovely rock outcrops for snorkelling around. Approx. 5km from Mitchells Cottage.

Doonloughan

Doonloughan beach has become famous among surfers. Almost always guaranteed waves the swell is best when the wind is offshore. It’s at least a 40 minute drive from Mitchells Cottage.

Clifden

Set between the Atlantic Ocean, 12 Ben Mountains and preserved boglands, lies the town of Clifden on the Coast of Connemara.
An area at long last recognised as a new popular destination and not just a place to 'breeze through'. Enhanced by spectacular scenery, championship golfing, horse-riding, walking, cycling, hill walking, beaches, fishing, scubadiving, painting, national parks, abbeys, castle ruins and over 5,000 years of living history. Peruse the many shopping choices in Clifden from sweater shops, quality gift shops, boutiques to antique and souvenir shops. Lunch in tea-shops, pubs and in the evenings, indulge in Clifden's emerging reputation as the West's 'Gourmet Capital' by dining in its fine restaurants, hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs. And finish the day by enjoying a tipple in the towns

Inishbofin Island

Inisboffin is a magical place just of the west coast. There is a daily ferry service to Inishbofin all year round. There are three sailings a day to and from the island during the summer months and two sailings daily during the winter months. The ferry departs from Cleggan pier.

The island has hotels, bars and restaurants, fabulous beaches, blowholes, seal colonies, birds, walks, and much more. A very popular place to go.
